Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said on Monday that his government had agreed to a suggestion to establish a private sector run agency to conduct future promotions for tourism in Sri Lanka.
This is based on a proposal put forward by the private sector.
He made these observations at the Future of Tourism conference at the Cinnamon Grand in Colombo. This would help overcome the bureaucracy in the state institutions involved in this task, he said.
However he noted that the private sector as a whole must commit itself and contribute and not to be taken over by a few.
"If the private sector is willing then the Minister and I will agree," the PM said. (SD)
