The Sri Lanka Administrative Association (SLAA) has said that it would stage a silent protest opposite the Finance Ministry against the appointment of the new Customs Director General.
Issuing a press release, the SLAA said that the appointment of a retired individual to the post of Customs Director General while a senior official of the SLAA was serving in the same position has had a detrimental effect on the SLAA and the public service sector.
The SLAA while expressing regret at the appointment of the retired officer also emphasised that due proceedure must be followed to select the most capable official while making such appointments.
The release also urged the suspension of the new appointment in order to enable senior SLAA official at present to serve as the Customs Director General without any hindrance.
If such measures were not taken, the SLAA said that it would convene an immediate meeting and discuss the relevant course of action that should be adopted in order to prevent the appointment from proceeding any further.
