The next round of discussions on the proposed alliance between the SLFP and the SLPP will be held on March 21, SLFP General Secretary Dayasiri Jayasekara said.
He made this remark following an official discussion which was held between the representatives of both parties today.
Mr. Jayasekara noted that talks would continue to be held in future since today's official discussion had ended on a successful note.
SLFP-SLPP to hold talks on alliance today
The much discussed official talks on the alliance between the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) will commence at 10 am today (Mar 14).
Three representatives from both parties are expected to engage in these talks which will be held at the Opposition Leader's office.
Preliminary rounds of discussions were held over the recent few weeks. However, it was decided to conduct an official discussion after considering the matters which were discussed during the recent talks.
"Discussions on the alliance will be held with minor parties as well," MP Thilanga Sumathipala who is expected to attend today's discussion told the press. He added that the alliance would be formed according to a proper policy framework.
Meanwhile, MP Basil Rajapaksa representing the SLPP said his party would engage in this discussion with an open mind.
Commenting on the presidential candidate on which much has been discussed about, MP Rajapaksa stressed that it was important to nominate an individual who could win at the polls.
The two parties are expected to be again if today's talks prove to be successful.
