Officials from the Finance Ministry and other relevant bodies will meet with the President today (Apr 22) in order to discuss matters pertaining to a special economic plan which will be chalked out very soon.
"The economy has a higher chance of being affected badly once again following yesterday's tragic incidents across the country," Finance Secretary Dr. R.H.S. Samaratunga told Times Online.
He noted that the country had just begun improving in terms of its economy following the constitutional crisis which hampered the country's activities in October last year.
Dr. Samaratunga said that yesterday's series of incidents may lead to drawbacks in investor confidence thereby posing a great danger to both the country's economy and the tourism industry.
The Finance Secretary insisted that swift measures must be taken to implement a special security plan in the aftermath of yesterday's incidents in order to prevent the country from plunging into an economic crisis.
A meeting with regard to devising a special economic plan was held with the Prime Minister last evening. However, talks are expected to continue with President Maithripala Sirisena this eveing, Secretary Samaratunga noted.
