Suhada Gamlath, Chairman of the National Authority for the Protection of Witnesses and Victims, will handover his resignation in near future, failing which he would be removed by the Presidential Secretariat, the Justice Ministry said.
Addressing a news briefing yesterday (Oct 1), Justice Minister Thalatha Athukorale said Mr. Gamlath had given statements to the media on certain matters in his capacity as Chairman, despite not being authorised to do so.
Mr. Gamlath recently told the media that two ministers in the government had forced him to take legal action against opposition presidential candidate Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.
"We have no problem with his political beliefs. However he has violated the code of conduct for a state official," the Justice minister said.
