Indian Minister of External Affairs, Sushma Swaraj arrived in the island a shortwhile ago on a two-day official visit, to participate in the ninth session of the India-Sri Lanka Joint Commission. The India-Sri Lanka Joint Commission, co-chaired by Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera and Indian External Affairs Minister Swaraj, will be held in Colombo today.
The India-Sri Lanka Joint Commission was established in 1992 as an effective mechanism to address matters pertaining to bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the discussions will include areas such as defence cooperation, technical and maritime cooperation, economic cooperation, trade, power and energy, social, cultural and educational matters, science and technology, health, civil aviation, tourism, and people-to-people contact. The India-Sri Lanka Joint Commission was established in 1992 as an effective mechanism to address matters pertaining to bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
The Eighth Session of the India-Sri Lanka Joint Commission was held in New Delhi on 22 January 2013.
