Suspect arrested over shooting of woman in Kadawatha

A suspect wanted in connection with the shooting death of a woman in Kadawatha was arrested by officers from the Peliyagoda Crimes Investigation Division. 

Police said the 26-year-old suspect, a resident of Malwana, was arrested from Biyagama last afternoon (30).

The female victim was shot dead by assailants who arrived on a motorbike at Ranmuthugala, Kadawatha on August 7. Police identified the arrested suspect as the motorcyclist in the incident.

Police alleged that the suspect was heavily addicted to heroin and investigations have revealed that he carried out the crime on the instructions of an individual known by the alias 'Gotha Asanka,' who is currently in prison. 

Police are hunting two further suspects in connection with the incident. 

The arrested suspect is due to be produced before the Mahara Magistrate's Court today (31)
