An individual who had stolen a gem worth Rs 8.2 million has been arrested in Wellawatte, police said.
According to the police, the suspect had stolen the gem and cash worth Rs 130,000 from a bus passenger who had been travelling from Wellawatte to Bambalapitiya.
The person who had been robbed off his possessions had identified the thief after the police had produced sketches of some suspected pickpockets, the Police Spokesman's office noted.
Steps had then been taken to apprehend the suspect who has been identified as a 46-year old resident of Panadura. He is due to be produced before the Colombo Magistrate's court today.
