Ten schools in the Western Province will be transformed into 'model schools' which would accommodate students of all faiths, Western Governor Azath Salley said today (May 30).
Addressing a meeting with education sector officials, the Governor said that these schools would receive additional facilities along with adequate tutorial and administrative staff in order to be upgraded as model schools.
A common uniform colour will also be introduced among these schools, Mr. Salley was quoted as saying in a press release issued by his office.
During the meeting, the Principals of the 10 selected schools had "welcomed the proposal" and had pledged to support the Provincial Education Ministry in the establishment of the project, the Governor's Office noted.
The schools which will be upgraded as model schools are : Lindsay Girls’ School, St Clare’s College, Arethusa College - Wellawatte, Kotahena President College, St John’s Maha Vidyalaya - Mattakuliya , St John’s College - Dematagoda, AE Gunasinghe Vidyalaya, St Mary’s Girls School , S. De.S. Jayasinghe Central College - Dehiwela.
