Three individuals were arrested in Elpitiya while attempting to rob two houses belonging to businessmen in Ambalangoda and Uragaha area today (Mar 18).
Police personnel who were tipped-off on this move had made the arrest after searching the van which was being used by the suspects.
A foreign hand grenade, a fake pistol, four masks, two fake number plates, swords and knives were seized by the police along with some bullets used in 9 mm guns.
Investigations have revealed that the suspects had previously committed thefts at several other shops in Elpitiya.
The suspects have been identified as Chamila Sampath, Prasad Priyantha, Tharusha Devasurendra.
