Three-wheeler fares for the first kilometre will be increased by Rs 10 due to reasons including the petrol price hike, a three-wheeler federation representative said today (Jun 11).
However, the rates for the second kilometre onwards will remain unchanged, Lanka Self Employed Professionals’ National Three-wheel Federation President Sunil Jayawardena said.
Other reasons influencing the fare hike are the increase in costs for tyres and three-wheel spare parts, Mr. Jayawardena noted.
According to the latest price revision, the fare of Rs 50 for the first kilometre will be increased upto Rs 60. However, the fare for the seond kilometre will remain at Rs 40.
According to the federation, the decision to increase fares is expected to ease the economic constraints faced by three-wheel drivers and their families.
Mr. Jayawardena also urged the government to provide concessions while selling petrol to three-wheel drivers in future.
