The appointment of Dr. Ranee Jayamaha and Samantha Kumarasinghe to the Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) has been approved by the Constitutional Council at its meeting on Wednesday.
These nominations were sent by President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa to fill the two vacancies on the board. They fill the slots left empty after Nihal Fonseka and Dr. Dushni Weerakoon resigned with effect from end May, official sources said.
Mr. Kumarasinghe is a well-known businessman while Dr. Jayamaha is a former Central Bank Deputy Governor and one time chairperson of the Hatton National Bank. The third non-executive member of the board is Sanjeeva Jayawardena, President's Counsel, appointed earlier.
The Central Bank Governor and Treasury Secretary are also members of the board.
