A Sri Lankan national who attempted to take wing to UK without a valid visa has been arrested at the departure terminal of the Bandaranaike International Airport yesterday (Jul 28).
The suspect has been identified as a 32-year old woman residing in Mullaitivu, Emigration Department officials who had carried out the arrest said.
Upon questioning, the woman had stated that she had planned to meet her husband in London. However, emigration officials who learnt that the visa was a fake one, had taken steps to notify the UK High Commission over the matter.
The woman and her visa have been handed over to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) unit at the Bandaranaike International Airport. Further investigations continue.
