Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thero, Bodu Bala Sena (BBS), Secretary, today (Apr 29) urged that religious ceremonies including Vesak and Poson should not be held until the country's situation is restored to normalcy.
The Thero who is serving an imprisonment term for threatening Sandya Ekneligoda, the wife of journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda made these remarks within the Homagama Court complex, claimed that reports have emerged warning of a possible suicide attack on 50 Buddhist Temples in the country.
Gnanasara Thero was produced before the Homagama court today after he was ordered to pay a compensation of Rs 50,000 to Ms. Ekneligoda. Accordingly he made this remarks while being escorted to the prison following a court hearing.
Meanwhile, BBS National Organiser Ven. Vitharandeniya Nanda Thera told reporters that the security provided to Gnanasara Thero while being escorted from court to his prison was insufficient given the current situation of the country.
He said that a request would be made to prison authorities in order to enhance the protection provided to the Thero.
