Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in his International Women’s Day message said the active role played by women was vital towards achieveing gender equality.
“Women's contribution in almost all the fields including the present day technology, communication, education, science, literature and culture claims women's achievements and demands the need of maintaining a gender parity mind-set” the Prime Minister said.
He added that the achievements of women are an achievement to the community due to the decisive role played by them in society.
“Women have come a long way through many hardships, life challenges with much of courage and commitment to assure a sustained living for them,” Mr. Wickremesinghe further noted.
The Prime Minister signed off by pledging that the government will stand for women, their rights and empowerment at all times.
