Five persons have died while 12 have been injured in an accident which had occured along the Welikanda Road in Batticaloa this morning, police said.
The accident had occured between a hand tractor and a van.
Among th deceased were four women and a man, police noted adding that they had been travelling in the tractor at the time of the accident.
Meanwhile, the injured victims are currently receiving treatment at the Polonnaruwa hospital.
