A complaint has been filed in the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka over the non-payment of payments to those affected in different riots across the country.
The same group is also planning to file a A fundamental rights application to restrain politicians affected by the violence after May 9, 2022 getting any compensation as promised by Urban Development Minister Prasanna Ranatunga.
The petition is to be filed by Hilmy Ahamed, Ms Sharni Jayawardena, Mohamed Bishri Ghazzali , Ms Thasleema Dahalan and Mohamed Sham Nawas in the Supreme Court.
They will request the SC to suspend any payment until all riot victims from Aluthgama, Gintota,to politicians Ampara, Digana and Minuwangoda are fully compensated.
In their complaint to the HRC they requested for details of compensation paid by Government to the riot victims. They have filed Right to Information applications too to the respective Divisional Secretaries seeking information on the compensation.
The Fundamental Rights application will be supported by senior attorney Shiraz Noordeen.
