Bangladesh in Box seat posting 318 for three

Sport

The batting wicket at Chattogram had the turn to favor it’s home side this time after Bangladesh finished day-three on the driver’s seat accumulating 318 for three, mainly driven by their centurion Tamim Iqbal’s unfinished 133, though having another 79 to clear.

Iqbal, stuck on 133 retired hurt, gave his team a flying start piling 162-runs for the opening wicket along with Mahmudul Hasan Joy, with whom the partnership got separated with the latter returning for 58.

The hosts, having managed to toil the Sri Lankan bowlers without much reward till that point, had to overcome a mini-collapse losing three batters, including that of their captain – Mominul Haque out for two.

However, those were the only moments of celebrations for the lackluster Lankans, as their bowlers had a long-day sans much avail.

In fact, of the three wickets to fall, two of them came off from concussion sub, Kasun Rajitha's hands.

But the third day’s star was their home-grown hero. Southpaw Iqbal, returning a taste of the tourist’s medicine, gave back what Angelo Mathew did in the first innings. The opening batter has an opportunity to better what his counterpart did and establish a new career-best.

Though for the relief of Lankans Iqbal returned to the pavilion, another partnership ensued between former captain Mushfiqur Rahim and Litton Das, sharing an unbroken 98 for the fourth-wicket.

Chief scores:

Sri Lanka: 397 all out (153) (Angelo Mathews 199, Dinesh Chandimal 66, Nayeem Hasan 6/105, Shakib Al Hasan 3/60)

Bangladesh: 318 for three (107) (Tamim Iqbal 133 retired hurt, Mahmudul Hasan Joy 58, Litton Das 54 n.o., Mushfiqur Rahim 53 n.o., Kasun Rajitha 2/17)
