President Ranil Wickremesinghe in his condolence message on Friday, only hours after late great Pele had passed away, praised the Brazilian profusely hailing him as an - exceptional sportsman.
In his message, he said, "I am saddened to learn of the passing of football legend Pele. He was an exceptional sportsman, who enthralled yound and old alike. My condolences to Pele's family and the people of Brazil".
Pele, a three-time world cup-winner, succumed to his battle with colon cancer, causing multilpe organ failures associated with his previous medical conditions.
