Colombo International School (CIS) pocketed the Schools Division 'B' Under-17 Basketball Championship after edging out Presbyterian Girls School by 39-37 in a nail-biting final played at Dehiwela on Wednesday (6).
The first two quarters were dominated by hosts Presbyterians but CIS gained possession of the game from the second quarter.
After the first quarter the Presbyterians led 12-5 but CIS bounced back to take the lead in the second quarter by 16-15.
By the end of the third quarter the Presbyterians fought well to level the scores at 25-all which left a thrilling fourth and final quarter on the cards.
The Presbyterians came back strongly in the beginning of the deciding session as CIS too produced some good moves to make the match a thrilling one.
Leia Hamza of CIS who scored 19 points in the final won the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament award while CIS skipper Sinali Ilangage, who scored nine points was named the Best Defensive Player.
Ishadi Wathsala of Presbyterians was named the Best Offensive Player.
Meanwhile in the third place playoff Sirimovo Bandaranaike MV beat St. Bridget's Convent 44-36 to walk out winners.
