It wasn’t for the first time that Vidyartha’s Ravishka Upananda has proved a thorn in Sylvestrian flesh.
On Saturday (12), when Vidyartha was looking at the prospect of a follow on, he played a thrilling innings of 81 which contained nine fours and two sixes.
Spinners Thusitha Soysa (3 for 49), and Sivakumar Tyron bore the burden of attack. Pacie Manuja Perera picked up two. Three batsmen were run out.
There were good knocks from the two premier batsmen, Thenuka Liyanage and Muditha Hashan and both passed the fifty mark and provided some excitement to the crowd at Pallekelle.
Once again, St. Sylvester’s have failed to land the killer blows and another big match has petered out in a draw.
St. Sylvester’s 203 and 189 for 3 in 39 overs (Thenuka Liyanage 62 not out, Muditha Hashan 54, Avidu Herath 37, Pabasara Perera 21; Isuru Prabodha 2 for 46)
Vidyartha 26 for 3 cont 161 in 74.3 overs (Ravishka Upananda 81, Isuru Prabodha 11, Pulina Gunatilleke 21; Sivakumara Tyron 2 for 39, Thusitha Soysa 3 for 39 and Manuja Perera 2 for 35)
