Chamil Cooray partnered by Brindly Wickremasinghe emerged winners of the Men's Doubles finals at the 16th President's Cup Carrom Championship organised and conducted by the Carrom Federation of Sri Lanka which was worked off at the Carrom Federation Headquarters, Kohuwala.
Over three hundred participants from all parts of the island took part in this year's edition of the championship which was conducted in four categories - Men's Singles, Women's Singles, Men's Doubles and Women's Doubles which commenced on April 23 and to be concluded on May 29.
In the Women's Doubles finals Chalani Lakmali and Yasika Rahubadda combination scored an easy 2-0 win (25-23, 25-10) over Joseph Roshita and Joseph Dilka to be crowned as champions.
In the Men's finals too Chamil Cooray and Brindly Wickremasinghe sailed to the championship with a comfortable 2-0 win (25-7, 25-8) as Charith Madusanka and M. Sheriffdeen failed to match this experienced pair exhibiting superb slice work.
D.N. Fernando/Tharanga Kalum clinched the third place in the Men's Doubles while Tharushi Himansika/Sadini Nirasha finished in the Women's Doubles event.
Men's Singles and Women's Singles events of the President's Cup commenced last Saturday (April 30) and will be played in every weekend up to May 29 at the Carrom Federation Headquarters.
The competition will be followed by the awards presentation ceremony of the Grand Slam, National Junior Carrom championships which were concluded earlier and the President's Cup Championship.
