Cricket: SSC receives clothing sponsorship from Kandurata Umbrella

The Kandurata Umbrella Industries are proud to come forward as the clothing sponsors for SSC cricket for the 5th consecutive year. 

SSC is probably the No. 1 cricket club in Sri Lanka, which has a colorful history of more than 117 years.

The club has been headed for decades by distinguished people such as Sir Henry Dias, Sir Solomon Obeysekara, Sir James Peiris, D. S. Senanayake, Sir John Kotelawala, J. R. Jayewardene, Ryle de Soyza, Presidents Council Daya Perera and Tommy Ellawala, the present President.

SSC is known for producing quality cricketers who have gone on to represent the country. 

During which time it has produced five national captains including Arjuna Ranatunga who led Sri Lanka to win the first-ever World Cup in 1996.

During their sponsorship in the calendar year 2013/14 SSC became the only club in the history to win four championships conducted by Sri Lanka Cricket. 

This partnership between SSC and Kandurata Umbrellas has enabled SSC to support the budding cricketers of the club to reach new heights.

KUI has also been very active with sports representing the Mercantile Rugby Tournament from 2014, and have being the champions in the bowl Gold Category in 2015, and became the runner-up in the shield category and also won the plate championship at Under-21.

Chairman, SSC Cricket, Samantha Dodanwela said: "Like all other sports in the world, cricket too needs financial assistance. Kandurata Umbrellas’ coming forward to be our clothing sponsor will no doubt enable the club to recruit new talent and also assist young cricketers financially to improve their cricketing skills. Unlike good old days, this game is no longer played for the prestige or for the love of it. It has now become a profession. Hence it is important that we find sponsors such as Kandurata Umbrellas and we are very much grateful to them for all the assistance extended towards SSC cricket during the last five years."
