Golf: Sri Lanka Junior Championship tees off

The Sri Lanka Junior Golf Championship 2017, sponsored by Prima Sunrise Bread, got off to a great start with Taniya Minel Balasuriya and Kayla Perera locked together as Joint Leaders in the Girls Gold and Silver Age categories returning One Under Scores of 71 in the Par 72 RCGC Ladies Score Card. 

The tournament is being played at the Royal Colombo Golf Club (RCGC) in Colombo.

Taniya (15) and Kayla (14) did the girls proud by shooting excellent sub-par opening round to have the credit of the best score returned in Round 1 of the Prima Sunrise Junior Golf Championship.

Vinod Weerasinghe, with a splurge of Six Birdies returned a 2 over par 73 to lead the Boys in the Gold Division, three strokes ahead of Darren Hall.

Duwarshan from Nuwara Eliya leads the Silver Division Boys with 82, by one stroke from T. Vikash. 

In the Bronze Division played over 14 holes, 10-year-old Shanal Binushka held a clear six stroke lead from M. Lidurshan of NEGC , with a 14 Hole 64, eight over par.

Kaya Daluwatte led the Cooper Division played over Nine Holes, for Age Group Category 9 years and under with a 42, one stroke ahead of Kvahn Tejwani. 

The Junior Golf Championship is played over three days, 54 holes for Gold and Silver categories, whilst the Bronze Division is over 42 holes and Copper Division is conducted through 27 holes. 

The second round commences Thursday (14) morning and the final round will conclude the championship on Friday (15) morning followed by the prize giving at the RCGC.
