The Sports Ministry has decided that Sri Lanka will field the Sri Lanka men’s national team for the Asian Hockey Federation (AHF) Challenge Cup to be held Yangon, Myanmar from November 25 to December 3.
Seven countries are scheduled to take part in the event.
They are Brunei, Chinese Taipei, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar and Uzbekistan.
With this in view a 28 member pool commenced training but after a week’s training the Sports Ministry itself halted the training which was on at the Torrington hockey turf.
The reason for the cancellation was given as the National Sports Festival is looming and that training will resume after the festival due to hostel facilities.
Anuruddha Herath Bandara and Pulasthi Lanerole were named as coaches and Jayantha Siyamudali was the fitness trainer.
