U-19 Cricket: Pawan continues to lead Bata-TST contest for 11th week

Sport

Pawan Dias of Royal College Panadura looks unstoppable as the All-Island Schools contest of the 37th Bata-the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2016 competition reaches its 11th week.

Pawan still holds the grip of the main contest with an addition of 662 votes during the ended week, which takes his tally to 5782.

He expands the deficit from 1061 to 1587 against second placed Lahiru Thambawita of Holy Cross College Kalutara.

In the recent weeks Lahiru posed threats to Pawan -- at a juncture coming close to taking over the leadership of the list -- but now with few more weeks remaining in the competition it is unlikely that anything shocking could occur.

Lahiru received 125 votes which took his tally to 4184 and sits 1140 votes ahead of third placed Yohan Mendis of S. Thomas' College Mt. Lavinia.

Lakshina Rodrigo of St. Peter's College and Ravin Sayer of Trinity College remains at fourth and fifth places respectively.

Madawa Fernando of De La Salle College Mutwal remains as the undisputed leader of the Emerging Schools category for the 11th week at a stretch and Dilshan Madushanka of Siri Piyarathana Central Padukka sits not bothered at second place.

The International Schools category is yet to kick off.

Coupons of the 37th Bata-the Sunday Times Most Popular Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year 2015 will appear on Wijeya Newspaper’s dailies, the Daily Mirror and Lankadeepa and also its weekend English issue, the Sunday Times and the Sinhala weekly Deshaya.
