Frustrated members of the public blocked off Hampden Lane in Wellawatta for traffic this morning over the non-availability of gas. The protesters demanded that steps be taken to issue them with gas cylinders. This was just the latest in a string of such spontaneous protests in recent days from the public angry over the prevailing shortages of gas and fuel.
A Sri Lanka Air Force Bell 212 helicopter belonging to the No. 72 squadron has crashed into the Madhuru Oya reservoir this morning, Air FOrce Media Spokesman Eranda Geeganage said.
