Taliban celebrates while Afghans suffer

World

Afghanistan marks a turbulent year that saw the Economy collapse, women’s and child rights pulled down and a humanitarian crisis worsen.

Exactly a year ago, the Taliban group captured Kabul after a nationwide lightning offensive against Government forces just as US-led troops were ending two decades of ‘intervention’ in a conflict that cost thousands of Afghan lives.

“It’s the day of victory and happiness for the Afghan Muslims and people. It is the day of conquest and victory of the white flag,” Government Spokesman Bilal Karimi said on Twitter.

The United Nations says that nearly half of the country faces acute hunger. According to a May report by the International Rescue Committee (IRC), 43% percent of Afghanistan's population is living on less than one meal a day, with 90% of Afghans surveyed reporting food as their primary need.

According to Save the Children, more than 45% of girls said they are not attending school – compared with 20 percent of boys – listing economic challenges. (Reported by Agencies)

Taliban is yet to be accepted by other countries in the world as they have imposed so many restrictions on Women and Children in Afghanistan, where the Western countries have that as the main reason to not recognize the Taliban as a Government.

Another report by Save the Children, titled Breaking point: Life for children one year since the Taliban takeover, showed that 97 percent of Afghan families were struggling to provide enough food for their children and that almost 80 percent of children said they had gone to bed hungry in the past 30 days.
