Piyal Nishantha is a man with two visions-one is to be an actor and the other a politician, and so far it is a success story towards both these goals.
Presently he is the Chairman of the Beruwala Pradeshiya Sabha and is currently campaigning hard as a candidate for the up coming Provincial Council Elections for the Western Province to be held in late April.
It all started at his local school in Bedruwala, where Nimal took the board for various dramas bagging title after title, including an award for best actor and producer.

This was the start, and he soon graduated to television, where he is currently doing well in the immensely popular tele drama “Pabha’ series where he plays the role of an ethnic Tamil.
His first appearance as an actor on TV came in Kapila Kumara Kalinga’s “Udama Sagara” followed by Herbert Shaliya’s “Dakune Nayo” before moving on to the wider cinema screen.
The 39-year-old Nishantha also played two key roles one as a soldier and the other as a ordinary villager in Dharamasiri Bandaranayake’s Bauduka and Bawakarumaya
Apart from acting and politics he is also a keen singer with many TV appearances already under his belt.
Explaining his shift to politics, Mr. Nishantha said it was aimed at doing something for the Beruwala electorate, such as improving the tourist and fishing industries.
He lamented that both these two sectors had over the years received step-motherly treatment from the relevant authorities. “But as the present PS Chairman I did my best to work towards these two sectors and it had worked to some extent”.(LB) |
