The Colombo District Court has issued summons on President of the Ceylon Bank Employee's Union, M.R.Shah in a case filed by Ceylinco Group Chairman Dr. Lalith Kotelawala for contempt of court.
Dr. Kotelawala filed a case against the union, Mr Shah and the union General Secretary for defamation and seeking damages in a sum of Rs 1 billion. On September 12 the Court issued an enjoining order restraining these three respondents from publishing and/or issuing and/or circulating any statement derogatory and/or defamatory of Dr. Kotelawala. Dr. Kotelawala in his petition stated that while the said enjoining order was in force Mr Shah had written a letter to the General Manager / CEO of the Seylan Bank PLC, with a copy to the Commissioner General of Labour containing statements derogatory and / or defamatory of Dr. Kotelawala. |
