Edlocate assists bright students with scholarships in Australian universities

Australian universities offer scholarships based only on academic achievements of students. The universities are very selective in offering scholarships at undergraduate level whereas at postgraduate level they adopt a more favourable attitude.

Throughout the 10 years of its existence Edlocate as a premier student agency in Sri Lanka for selected Australian universities and other tertiary educational institutions, has assisted bright Sri Lankan students to win scholarships at various levels of studies. The very first student of Edlocate - Mahendrarajah won a full scholarship to do his B.Eng (Computer Systems) Hons at the University of Adelaide. He graduated with flying colours and is now doing a Ph.D in the School of IT at the University of Sydney in affiliation with CSIRO ICT. During the years there had been several students who won scholarships including Dr. Rasika Jayasekera who won a scholarship to do a PhD in Nursing.

For the 2009 February semester Edlocate assisted several bright students to win scholarships. Barana Chandima Waidyathilake a 20 year old student from Trinity College Kandy won a scholarship to do BA at the University of Melbourne with specialization in Sociology. Barana excelled in studies at Trinity and for his A/Ls in Aug 2007 he chose the Arts stream with French, English and Economics as subjects. He was placed 3rd at national level in the Arts stream and was awarded the school's highest honour, the Ryde Gold Medal. His many achievements in a range of activities other than studies made it possible for Edlocate to make a strong case with regard to his application for a scholarship.

The following students were awarded scholarships for the Feb'09 intake. Mario Shaveen De Silva a 19 yr old student from Asian International School and Jovan Jacob 19 yrs old from Stafford International School were both awarded 100% tuition scholarships by the University of Adelaide. Whilst Mario will do a double degree Bachelor of Commerce and Bachelor of Law, Jovan will do a degree in Engineering (Chemical).

Daneesha Sevwandhi Fonseka a 19 year old girl from the Colombo International School won a partial scholarship to do Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Melbourne.

For the July 2009 intake too Edlocate assisted several students to receive 100% scholarships. Among them are Lakshitha Perera, from Trinity College who received the "Adelaide Outstanding Achiever Scholarship International (AOASI)" from the Adelaide University South Australia, and Pasindu Aluthwela, who received a scholarship from the Adelaide University to pursue a Bachelor of Engineering programme.
