The CIMA Spellmaster season 2 which commenced in Kegalle was worked off in Nuwara Eliya, Badulla, Monaragala, Ratnapura Kandy and Matale over the last one week. From the 19 schools that participated in the competition held at Hillwood College, Kandy, Gampola Zahira College made their mark by being the only school thus far to have all 5 contestants who entered the competition qualifying for the quarterfinals.
The other schools that impressed in Kandy were Trinity College, Hillwood College, St. Sylvester's College, Girls' High School, Badi-Ud-Din Mahmud Girls' College, and Good Shepherd Convent Kandy.
In Monaralaga L.P. Kalingu Yasas Premarathna, a participant from Royal College Monaragala who was a semi-finalist at last year's competition made his school proud by qualifying for the quarter finals yet again this year. Kalingu was one out of the 14 contestants from Monaragala who qualified for the next round. Out of the 6 contestants who qualified for the quarterfinals from Nuwera Eliya , the two Sheriff sisters from St. Andrew's Balika Maha Vidyalaya stood out in the competition.
24 competitors qualified from Badulla, Ratnapura turned out 20 and Matale 10 for the quarter finals. The competition will shift to Kurunegala, Polonnaruwa, Batticaloa and Amparai from 12 to 16 of October.
With 16 more competitions to go for the 1st round the excitement keeps building up to select the top 20 who will be seen spelling it off for the title "CIMA Spellmaster Season 2". |
