Student passport to the world

By Adilah Ismail

The International Student Identity Card (ISIC) has been hailed as the “student passport to the world” by its vast base of 4.5 million cardholders worldwide. Endorsed by UNESCO and boasting of 40,000 discounts in 120 countries, this internationally recognized student/ youth/ teacher lifestyle cards card comes with a bundle of benefits for its card holders.

The card opens doors to abundant discounts on plane, train and boat tickets while travelling abroad, as well as discounts in a variety of selected outlets Sri Lanka!

Raehan Dassenaike, a student who has been using the card for over three years explained that the subsidised travel which can be obtained when using the card abroad is definitely useful. “More people should use the card, so that benefit providers in Sri Lanka will realize that they have a broader base,” said Raehan.

Kanishka Perampalam, a CIM student, explained that she got to know about the card through a friend and has been an enthusiastic cardholder for two and a half years. “It’s pretty good and it’s always good to get a discount where ever you go” voiced Danushka Kiridena.

Dayalan Supramanium, General Manager, Go Holidays (Pvt) Ltd, the licensed office for ISIC in Sri Lanka said “ISIC is the passport to fantastic discounts around the world but working closely with students and youth helped us realize that many who didn’t have the opportunity to travel overseas were disheartened about not being able to reap these magnificent benefits. With a customer database of 4000 our benefit providers believes it is an effective strategy to strengthen relationships with customers and increase business. In the coming months we will encourage Sri Lankan students and youth to make ISIC a permanent part of their wallet.”

Some of the current benefit providers include Barista Coffee, Roots, Dialog GSM, Excel World, Crown Hair and Beauty Salon, Future World (premier reseller for Apple products), The Sizzle Restaurant, Vijitha Yapa bookshops, Stone n String, Maharaja Entertainment, Sarasavi Bookshop, Club D’s, Golden Mile, Gonuts with Donuts, The Raffles Restaurant, among many others.
