Search for Korean cinema and Kim Ki-duk

Young writer and filmmaker Sanjeewa Pushpakumara’s book titled ‘Koreyanu Cinemawa saha Kim Ki dikge Cinema Rupa’ (Korean Cinema and Film Language of Kim Ki-duk’ was launched recently.

The book published by Sarasavi Publishers is rare literature that explore into one of the leading cinemas of the world that had presented talented and outstanding filmmakers and cinematic creations.

The first half of the book is dedicated to discuss the history of Korean cinema with a general background during the period from 1903 to 1980.

This part discusses on various themes like ‘Japanese colonial period and the heyday of silent films, Motion picture and film censorship regulations, The first Korean sound film, Policies to promote the film industry after the Korean war and the formation of the teens audience for high teen films.

The second half of the film presents detailed analysis of modern Koren cinema since 1980 and up to date, the period which brought about many new developments with the emergence of Korean cinema industry and the birth of artistic cinema.

Next comes Kim- Ki- duk. The critical analysis on this avant-garde filmmaker and his film language.
