Lifting a 6 year curse that hung over the competition, the Trash metal ensemble, Tantrum is the first band to have won the ‘best band’ category at Onstage and not burn out like its predecessors. That was back in 2005, since then all the bands that have won the competition are still around and rocking.
With that being sufficient reason for celebration, Tantrum has organised Back on The stage, a metal concert that will feature all these bands. “All the bands up to 2005 of Onstage have disbanded, for some reason or other.
Even after we won people doubted we’d continue to make music and weirdly we had a lot of problems that year and we went through a major line-up change” says front man and vocalist, Javeen Soysa.
Since 2006 the band as has consisted of a tight group of four musicians. “After this period of time, every other band that won the competition stayed on as well. So we like to say we are the ones who broke the curse,” adds Javeen.
Taking the main stage Tantrum will perform most of their new songs from their upcoming album with a few of their older originals and covers tossed in for good measure.
“These are the recent stuff we composed for the new album. We’ve played the songs before but not just once or twice before. We’ll be adding a few surprises here and there. So I that will be something to look forward to” he shares.
The other bands that will be performing at the concert will include, The Fuzmechan-X, Hollow and Nemesis. All of which will make for a heady mix of different genres of rock music. “I remember back then, before we won, there was a ‘back onstage’ concert by TNL but in the recent past, no one has done this. So we thought we would take the initiative and do this.
Most of the time the band that’s won has been the right decision, so here it is. Here are all the winners, here are all the best bands all on one stage. It’s going to be an awesome event to be at!” he says.
The concert will be predominantly trash metal as Tantrum will be taking the main stage. Back On The Stage, is set to take place on December 11, at 3:30pm and continue till 8pm at the Zouk Club— Galadari. Tickets are priced at Rs. 500/- and will be sold at the gate. |
