Using television for education, now Dharmavahini Foundation together with Ministry of Education conducts a series of “revision” classes for students sitting for their Ordinary Level examination in December.
Conducted by a group of teachers, especially hand picked by the Ministry from all over the country, the programme telecast over Dialog TV from November 14 to July 6. Students sitting for December exam will have a rare opportunity to interact with the teachers during a special series of live interactive sessions each Saturday and Sunday.
These “live” telecasts which will commence from 9 am - 12 Noon and from 1pm – 6 pm will allow students to phone in (Tel: 5-666588, 0779038402, 03, 07, 09, 10), and get their questions answered during the programme itself. As usual, these programmes will then be repeated throughout the day.
The telecast covered 12 subjects based on the year 10 syllabus, of which 6 lessons were telecast within a period of 5 hours each day.
These lessons were repeated on a 24 hour rotation so that a student could come in at anytime and join the sessions without losing on a lesson. In view of this resounding success, it is planned to introduce similar sessions for Year 11 in 2010.
To provide content for an Educational TV Channel targeting Ordinary Level examination this year, “Learn TV” was born, and began transmitting via satellite on Channel 72 from July this year.
The initiative was taken by Ven. Denmarke Mettavihari of Dharmavahini Foundation together with the Ministry.
