Wesley sees second half Blues 29-05

S. Thomas College coming out for the season in their opener settled and re-grouped with their super fitness level and outclassed their opponents Wesley College by 29 points (2 Goals, 3 Tries) to 5 points (1 try) at Mount Lavinia in the Singer Under 20 League rugby encounter.

At the short breather it was Wesley who led 5-0
It was Wesley who settled and played a good game in the initial half. Their forwards and three quarters clicked well. Even they handled the wet ball very well. Fly Half Azmil Omar gained lot of territory for Wesley through his booming touch kicks. Thomains opted to keep the ball with their forwards most of the first half. But Wesley defence was rock solid giving no holes at all. In the second half Thomians changed their game plan and ran the ball at every given opportunity.

Wesley missed a Penalty through Azmil Omar in the 14th minute. But 2 minutes later Wesley drew first blood when Aakil Affam kicked and chased successfully to touch down. Stand Off Azmil Omar was not on target with the conversation. Though the Thomians tried their level best to score Wesley defence stood rock solid.

Come the second half Thomians were totally different in their play. They opted to work their line. It was Centre Anuruddha Willawara who kicked and chased successfully to score the first try for the Black and Blue jersey.

Stand off Tishan Wickremasinghe was on target with the kick at goal to take a 7-5 lead. Winger Udara Pathum Silva dashed right corner flag to touch down to increase the Thomian lead to 12-5. In another forwards rush Shavin Kapuwatte touched down. Another two more tries by Anuruddha Willawara took Thomians home with an easy win in the end.
