The third day’s play of the Bank of Ceylon Inter-Provincial cricket encounter between Basnahira North and Wayamba and Hirdramani Ruhuna and MAS Holdings Kandurata scheduled to be played at De Zoysa Stadium in Moratuwa and P. Sara Stadium respectively was washed off without a ball being bowled due to heavy rain.
The conclusion of the second day’s play at Moratuwa saw Basnahira North make a massive 598 with opener Dimuth Karunaratne and Kaushal Silva cracking tons with the pair being associated in a record 306 runs stand for the third wicket.
Dimuth slammed a marathon 355 ball knock of 185 which included 19 boundaries and a six while Kaushal cracked 158 in 284 balls with 17 boundaries.
Later in the innings Angelo Perera made a 114 ball 72 with five boundaries and two sixes and rescued his team, which slid from 396 for 3 to 443 for 6. Angelo was associated in two useful partnerships of 53 runs for the eighth and ninth with Sohan Boralessa and Arosh Janoda.
In the game at the P. Sara Stadium Hirdramani Ruhuna’s Geeth Alwis put in a fine all round performance to give his side the advantage. This was after MAS Holdings Kandurata had dominated the proceedings on the first day. They were well placed on 202 for 3 but Geeth with a four wicket haul sent them reeling to 271 as they lost the remaining seven wickets for 69 runs. Opener Nadeera Nawela was the only batsman to put in some resistance making a top score of 115. Geeth followed his four wicket haul with a knock of 72 and in the process put on an opening stand of 100 with skipper Upul Tharanga.
Geeth’s knock comprised ten boundaries which helped Ruhuna make a bold reply of 156 for 2. The two matches will be continued at 10.00 a.m. today.
