Classical music buffs and fans of the De Lanerolle duo have a treat awaiting them.
Following the success of their debut concert as a musical duo in March, brothers Rohan and Ishan De Lanerolle accompanied by internationally acclaimed pianist Jonathan Clarke, present a long awaited classical music concert series that will see them performing in Kandy, Colombo, Galle and Jaffna.
Dr. Jonathan Clarke is Head of Organ Studies at Eltham College, London and Composition and piano tutor at Solihull School. He has played extensively throughout the UK and Europe as a solo organist and pianist.

Jonathan has played solo recitals at many cathedrals including Durham, Salisbury and Chichester and notable concert venues such as Symphony Hall, Birmingham and The Barbican.
He has recently performed several operatic chamber music recitals with the group More Than Opera including a recital at the Adrian Boult Hall, Birmingham featuring Rohan de Lanerolle. He is currently organist at St. Mary’s Banbury.
A successful conductor and composer, he recently conducted an award-winning week's run of Oklahoma! at the Solihull Arts Complex. He is currently working on a major new piano concerto and a song cycle for baritone to be performed by Rohan later this year.
The concerts will comprise a selection of music including light classics, Broadway and Neapolitan songs by Rohan and Ishan and solo piano works of Beethoven, Chopin, Bach and Mendelssohn performed by Jonathan Clarke.
“Ever since we began singing together we have strived to do things differently; to give people a different experience,” says Rohan. “With this in mind we plan on taking this concert out to communities which do not have access to different genres of music.” Thus in addition to their performances in Galle and Kandy, they will perform in Jaffna on July 18.
“We are really looking forward to this,” smiles Ishan. “Although there are many challenges in concluding the concert in Galle and then driving to Jaffna for a concert the next day, we know that the effort will be worth it."
Joining the brothers in Jaffna will be students from a few Jaffna schools. “There is a vast amount of untapped talent out there,” they explain, “and we want to give children the chance to make use of it- and help their parents to realize the benefits of the performing arts in moulding their personalities."
Jonathan Clarke and the De Lanerolle brothers will perform in Kandy today at the Earls Regency hotel (tickets at Rs. 1800 available at the hotel) and in Colombo on July 13 at the Mount Lavinia Hotel. Tickets for the show priced at Rs. 4000 and 3000 are available at the Mount Lavinia Hotel, Bayleaf and the Commons. There will be cocktails at 6 30 p.m. followed by the show at 7. 30 p.m.
Their concerts in Galle and Jaffna are on July 17 and 18 respectively. For the Galle concert, tickets priced at Rs. 1800 are available at Amangalla Hotel – Galle. Their concert in Jaffna's Centre for Performing Arts is free of charge. |
