This month’s Rockapalooza which is set to take place on July 17 promises to be another memorable event with good times and amazing live music. Along with Rockapalooza staples such as Magic Vinyl and Nuke The System, Cynosure and Point Blank the new faces include Stop Watch Theory , The Debtors and Not Another Metal Band.
Since its inception a year and a half ago Rockapalooza has become the No.1 source for live music in Sri Lanka, so much so that the last few shows have all been sold out. But playing to packed audiences is not the only thing Rockapalooza is about says founder Anil Balasuriya, “yes it’s great to have such an amazing response from the fans who come for our shows and we will always love them for that, for any band it’s the best possible feeling to play to a full house and have that audience vibe off your music is just the best.
But Rockapalooza is also about developing bands and helping them cut their teeth live. I mean we are one of the few organizations right now that hold such events and give bands a platform to perform. And the results have been inspiring. It just proves that for any bands the more you play live the better you get and we are all about that.”
The band Point Blank is a card carrying example of that since they have been with Rockapalooza almost from its inception and from their humble beginnings have risen to become an impressive live band.
Anil Balasuriya is also the front man of band Magic Vinyl who are currently in the studio putting down tracks for their first record. Anil was also recently selected by the British council as one of 2 delegates to represent Sri Lanka at Soundpad for Music entrepreneurs, where he visited the UK and was apart of “The Great Escape” music festival. So make it point to step into Afrodisiac (above Clancy’s) from 8.30pm onwards to experience some amazing talent.
