Brown & Company Ltd recently donated a stock of electronic appliances and furniture in addition to a cash donation Rs. 300,000 to construct the army’s ‘Abimansala’, Wellness Resort at Anuradhapura.
Speaking on the occasion, Browns Group CEO/MD Mr. Murali Prakash stated “We are happy to have been able to contribute to this venture which will, even in a small way, help to support the soldiers who have been disabled due to the war”.

The Browns Group CSR policy encapsulates helping communities and stakeholders through initiatives that would uplift their livelihoods, a company statement said.
Based on present statistics, there are approximately 300 plus soldiers who became totally disable with multiple injuries during the war. Those injuries range from spinal cord, brain damage and many other disabilities such as amputations, impaired hearing, vision, speech defects, paralysis and so on, it said.
Under this project the war veterans will be housed in a “Resort” type wellness center with all comforts and facilities. The first “Wellness Resort” will be built in Anuradhapura Nuwara Wewa lakeside where 50 veterans could be accommodated at a time, the Browns Group statement said .
The Centre will consist of an administrative, visitor centre with accommodation, accommodation for bed ridden soldiers with severe injuries (brain, upper spinal cord, etc) in wards which are closely supported, accommodation for injuries to brain, spine, limbs, yet ambulant with assistance, Health room consisting of Physiotherapy / Hydrotherapy / Counseling rooms / Ayurvedic treatment, laboratory, recreational centre that includes library, theatre, spa, religious centre, music room, games, etc. Kitchen and house keeping unit, staff quarters for doctors, nurses, officers and minor staff. |
