The lighting business of diversified Sri Lankan group Hayleys noted that it had showcased its partner's, Philips Lighting's, range of "green" or energy efficient lighting, suited for commercial, industrial and architectural applications, at the recently concluded Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority-organised Vidulka Energy Exhibition 2010, which was open to the general public.
According to a company statement; "Today, the world has acknowledged the need to reduce power consumption by phasing out energy inefficient lamps and gear to a strict timetable. In Sri Lanka this mandate is spearheaded by the Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority. One of these initiatives is the phasing off of GLS bulbs with the propagation of CFLs and LED’s".
Additionally, it was indicated that almost "two thirds of all lighting installed around the world is based on older, less energy efficient lighting [and] simple changes can have profound results, as efficient lighting saves money, reduces energy consumption, and carbon emissions into the environment". It was also noted that this type of "green" general lighting has the "potential to achieve an average energy saving of 40%".
Hayleys, as a corporate, is also known to subscribe to international guidelines, which advocate sustainability reporting as an integral part of its annual report. |
