Facets 2010, the annual international gem and jewellery exhibition, will be held at the BMICH from September 2 to 5 with India participating as an exhibitor for the first time, said the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association (SLGJA) in a press release.
“This year’s Facets Sri Lanka 2010 will serve as a platform for leading gemstone traders in emerging economies such as India, Russia and China to start sourcing from Sri Lanka, as well as to explore market opportunities in Hong Kong, Burma and Iraq as they arrive in anticipation of sealing trade links with the Sri Lankan industry,” it said.
For the first time in the Facets show history, India will participate as an exhibitor, with Myanmar, Hong Kong, Singapore and Thailand showcasing their products at the international booths. Indian, Burmese, Chinese and other regional delegations are also scheduled to arrive.. The SLGJA says the exhibition will provide opportunities for the local gem and jewellery industry to enter new markets.
“This year’s FACETS exhibition offers the local industry a very good opportunity to venture into newer markets such as India, Russia, China and Turkey, in addition to the traditional gem buying countries such as the US, Hong Kong and Europe,” said the Chairman of the SLGJA, Macky Hashim,.
India and China have emerged strong contenders in the global gem and jewellery industry despite the global recession. |
