The Meteorology Department yesterday warned the public of bad weather conditions in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central Provinces and Galle and Matara districts.
The Early Warning Centre of the department said that the Southwest monsoon has been activated with atmospheric disturbances in the vicinity of Sri Lanka. Therefore showers and thundershowers wold develop over most parts of the island during the afternoon and night.
It said the rainfall in some areas might exceed 100mm.
Fairly strong south-westerly winds would occur especially along the Western slope of the Central hills and temporary localized fairly strong winds would occur during thundershowers, the department said.
It also requests the public to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activities. |
