The prisoner who was killed while attempting to escape from the Bogambara Prison yesterday at around 12.45 a.m., was a resident of Alawathukanda in Weddagala, Kalawana, a senior Prisons official said.
The suspect 29-year-old Tharanga Kumara Dassanayake who was arrested over several jewellery robberies in Bandarawela, Teldeniya, and Maturata police divisions had four cases pending against him in courts.
Additional Kandy Magistrate Ravindra Premaratne conducted the magisterial inquiry and ordered the police to produce a report along with the post-mortem report.
Investigations are being held under the supervision of Kandy DIG Pujitha Jayasundara and SSP Ranjith Kasturiratne. |
