Indian presence soon in North and South

Sri Lanka and India exchanged Notes to establish two Indian Consulate General offices in Jaffna and Hambantota on Friday, the Ministry of External Affairs said.

The proposed Consulate General in Jaffna will cover the districts of Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya and Mannar while the one in Hambantota will cover the districts of Galle, Matara and Moneragala.

The notes were signed by External Affairs Ministry Secretary C.R.Jayasinghe and Ashok K.Kantha, Indian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka.

The Sunday Times exclusively reported in May this year that India had sought clearance from Sri Lanka to open the two offices. The go ahead was given when President Mahinda Rajapaksa visited India in June.
