Journey through genres of music

Prepare yourself for a journey through the evolution of modern dance and music with Elizabeth Moir School’s new production, ‘Revolve’.

‘Revolve’ portrays the history of modern music from the 1920s to the present day, portraying each era’s social trends reflected in its music, dance, culture and style. Beginning with flappers dancing the Charleston in The Jazz Age, the show takes in Motown, Disco, Rock and Roll and the ‘80s before a groundbreaking glimpse of the future in a show-stopping finale.

Audiences will love the combination of some of the favourite songs of each decade with dances ranging from classical ballroom and Latin to cutting edge contemporary and hip hop routines.

It is this pioneering combination of different dance genres with choral and solo singing that has made previous productions must-see performances in Colombo and this year promises to be even more exciting with more variety, more live music and more original musical arrangements.

Directed and produced by students Reema Mohamed, Shewta Premachandra and Serala Ranatunga, the dancing has been choreographed by former Moir student Juhi Subba, director of last year’s stunning FLUX.  Award winning soloist Tharuka De Silva leads the singing under the direction of one of Colombo’s top performers, Nadine Samarasinghe, and the hugely talented student Avishka Mendis.

‘Revolve’ will go on board at the Lionel Wendt Theatre from November 5 -6 2010. Tickets are available at Elizabeth Moir Senior School at 4/20, Thalakotuwa Gardens, Colombo 5. Telephone - 2512275 / 2512109.  Don’t miss it!
