The Sri Lanka Design Festival (SLDF) 2010 is set to unveil the best line-up of graphics and advertising exhibitions, forums and workshops.
The SLDF 2010 brings together the best of this influential industry in order to educate the general public and design students on Advertising and Graphics through a wide- ranging programme of exhibitions, workshops and seminars. Additionally, SLDF will highlight the importance of green and ethical practices in advertising in order to ensure sustainable development of the industry.
The workshops will be conducted by experts in this field. The Motion Graphic Design workshop, conducted by Barry Shwartz - a motion graphic design expert from Addikt, one of the most cutting-edge motion graphic studios in the world - will focus on the principles and nuances of motion graphic design.
Other significant events in this sphere include workshops on Illustration (Maria Perez), Typography (Rajesh Dahiya – founder of Co- Design, India), and Screen Printing (Alain Parizeau – Head of Graphic Design at the Academy of Design). Joe Lenora, designer and founder member of leading design studio in Colombo ‘We Are Designers’, will conduct a seminar, titled ‘What’s In’ which will focus on current trends in web design and visual communication in social media. The ‘Graphics Go Green’, a workshop conducted by Raefer Wallis, will be centred on the fundamentals of applying green initiatives to graphic design. A graphics exhibition will be held throughout the festival for visitors, a culmination of the hard work and efforts of AOD’s graduating class in graphic design.
Festival-goers can experience the art of curating through Sharmini Pereira, Founder and Director of non-profit independent publisher Raking Leaves. This unique venture focuses on the methods through which the art of curating art has evolved. A Book Design seminar will also be held by Colombo’s specialist book designers, Deshan Tennekoon and Asvajit Boyle.
The festival is conceptualized by the Academy of Design (AOD) and is organized by the AOD in partnership with the Export Development Board (EDB). The Principal Sponsor of the event is MAS Holdings while Sri Lankan Airlines, Sri Lanka Tourism and many others are supporting the event to be held at its Official Venue – Mount Lavinia Hotel.
