‘Makarakshaya’ Moves

Two shows of ‘Makarakshaya’(The Dragon’) directed by Dharmasiri Bandaranayake will go on the boards on November 5 at 2.30 pm and 6.30 pm at Maris S tella College Indoor Stadium, Negombo and November 6 at Wickramabahu National School Theatre, Gampola.

Originally written by Soviet playwright Yevgeny Shvarts and translated by Cyril C Perera, the Sinhala production of ‘Makarakshaya’ won 12 State Awards at the State Drama Festival 1985, including Best play in 1985, Best Director, Best Translation, Best Music, Best Costume Designing, Best Stage Set designing, Best Lighting, Best Choreography, Best Stage Management and Best Choreography.

The cast of the new production includes Yashoda Wimaladharma, Dharmapriya Dias, Janaka Kumbukage, Luxman Mendis, Chulla Jayawardhana, Leonard Cooray, Gamini Wijesinghe and Bandaranayake himself and many others.
