Sri Lanka Muslim Congress parliamentarian for Digamadulla Faizal Cassim was jeered at by pro-LTTE groups in Koyamputtur, Tamil Nadu on Saturday, party sources said.

Mr Cassim was in Koyamputtur as the chief guest at an opening ceremony of a textile emporium, on the invitation of its owners, when the incident took place. When the Mr Cassim arrived at the emporium, LTTE supporters in the crowd had protested over his presence.

Tamil Nadu police, who were called in, arrested 60 LTTE supporters, while Mr Cassim was forced to leave under Police escort without taking part in the opening ceremony.

For this opening ceremony, owners of the emporium had invited Minister Rishard Bathyudeen and MP Faizal Cassim. However, Minister Bathyudeen had decided against attending the function at the last minute. The SLMC joined the government before the recent Cabinet reshuffle.
